Ayubowan! Welcome back and how do you do?
"Ayubowan" is the word used in Sri Lanka to greet someone. It means Long Life. One is Generally greeted by joining two hands in prayer-like manner and saying "Ayubowan". This phrase can be used any time of the day. However, in the city it is more common to be greeted with a hand shake, while the village folks still greet you in the traditional way.
You are right! Today I would like to share something related to Sri Lankan, I experienced 4 hours at Sri Lankan. 4 hours? Only 4 hours? Yes! I had the best dinner at Sri Lankan Seafood Festival at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, exclusive at Big Apple Restaurant, Level 14, only at the month of April 2018.
I heard that, Sri Lankan cuisine has been influenced by many historical & cultural factors. Situated in the middle of trading routes for sea fares in the ancient times as well as contact with foreign traders who brought new food items, cultural influences from neighboring countries have all helped shape Sri Lankan cuisine. Influences from India, Indonesia and Dutch cuisines are most evident in shaping the taste and ingredients of their dish, are they true? Please do let me know, if you are from Sri Lankan, leave comment below, do share with me :)
I have been acknowledge one of the most common yet specialty in Sri Lankan cuisine are the crabs.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner A.J.M. Muzammil has given their support for this event. “In conjunction with the Sri Lankan Seafood Festival, we hope that more Malaysians will be able to understand further on Sri Lankan culture and food. Together, we look forward to build a stronger friendship between both countries,” said High Commissioner A.J.M. Muzammil.
Besides that, the delightful authentic Sri Lanka dishes prepared by renowned Chef J.M.D.K. Jayawardhana and Chef H.L.M Hettiarachchi such as Pol Sambol (shredded coconut sambal), Seeni Sambol (spicy caramelized onion relish), Lunu Miris (Hot and Sour sambal paste), Gotukola Sambol (Sri Lankan Kerabu salad), Thebu Cola Sambol (Costus Speciosus), Mukunuwenna Mallum (Herbs Sri Lankan salad), Fish Ambul Thiyal with Gravy, Prawns Mellum, Chicken Kalupol Curry, Brinjal Moju, a selections of Deep Blue Seafood on Ice Display, such as King Crab Claw, Prawns, Crabstick, Mussels, Tuna, Smoked Salmon and also some selections of dessert such as Curd & Treacle (Buffalo milk yogurt with palm sugar), Laddu, and Kesari. They do looks like Malay foods, but the taste might be some different, hard for me to explain, what I can say:"Go and try them by yourself 😆".
During the Sri Lankan Seafood Festival, guest will have the opportunity to experience Sri Lankan tea; from Sri Lankan family tea company Dilmah. Garden fresh, unblended tea is a hallmark of Dilmah and offers a unique taste of unblended Ceylon Tea, but I found the Ceylon Tea is kind of sweet, I am not a fan of sweetening, so you may have a try :)
If you are planning to have an unique meal, such as birthday meal? gathering? Or spend on the coming weekend with your love ones, why not visit Big Apple Restaurant, Level 14 at Berjaya Times Square.
