Sumptuous Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner at Genting Palace 2016


If you are visiting Genting Highlands for celebrating Chinese New Year at the Resorts World Genting this year (2016). Whether you are with a family get-together or a meeting with business associates, you can look forward to a fabulous, and memorable Lunar New Year at the resort.



The weather in Genting Highlands is very cold, luckily I brought a thicker jacket.
Gentle reminder: Please remember to wear thicker clothes at Genting Highlands.


I have  something special to share with you, it's about a joyful, delicious, and sumptuous reunion dinner. I recommend you Genting Palace, their reunion dinner is so awesome. At Genting Palace, you have a selection of two of the menus.




Menu 1 is priced at RM1, 600 nett for a table of eight to ten people. The eight-course Menu 1 comprises Lucky Salmon Yee Sang, Double-boiled Free Range Chicken with Black Mushroom Consomme, Steamed Lampang Patin with Ginger, Japanese-style Salt and Pepper Prawns, Simmered Spare Ribs in Red Wine, Stewed Rice with Mince Meat and Scallions, New Year Pancake with Shredded Coconut, and Chilled Sea Coconut and Aloe Vera.

Menu 2 also costs RM1,600 and is for a table of seven to ten people. Prosperity Yee Sang with Japanese Tuna opens the meal, followed by Ginseng-infused Free Range Chicken Consomme, Steamed Tiger Grouper with Traditional Preserved Vegetables and Shrimp, Mangolion-style Baked Pork Belly and Ribs, Braised Dried Seafood with Longevity Moss, Fried Rice with Fresh Shrimp, Sweet Corn and Diced Vegetables, Chilled Sweetedned Aloe Vera and Gingko Nut with Korean Pear, and New Year Pancake with Red Bean and Shredded Coconut.

Meaning of the ingredients

When putting the Yee Sang on the table offers New Year greetings.


恭喜发财 (Gong Xi Fa Cai) meaning “Congratulations for your wealth” 万事如意 (Wan Shi Ru Yi) meaning “May all your wishes be fulfilled”

The fish is added, symbolising abundance and excess through the year. 年年有余 (Nian Nian You Yu) meaning “Abundance through the year”, as the word "fish" in Mandarin also sounds like "Abundance".

The pomelo or lime is added to the fish, adding luck and auspicious value. 大吉大利 Da Ji Da Li meaning “Good luck and smooth sailing”

Pepper is then dashed over in the hope of attracting more money and valuables. 招财进宝 Zhao Cai Jin Bao meaning “Attract wealth and treasures”

Then the oil is poured out, circling the ingredients and encouraging money to flow in from all directions. 一本万利 Yi Ben Wan Li meaning “Make 10,000 times of profit with your capital” 财源广进 Cai Yuan Guang Jin meaning “Numerous sources of wealth”

Carrots are added, indicating blessings of good luck. 鸿运当头 Hong Yun Dang Tou meaning “Good luck is approaching”. Carrot (红萝卜) is used as the first character 鸿 also sound like the Chinese character for red.

Then the shredded green radish is placed symbolising eternal youth. 青春常驻 Qing Chun Chang Zhu meaning “Forever young”. Green radish is used as the first character 青 also sound like the Chinese character for green.

After which the shredded white radish is added - prosperity in business and promotion at work. 风生水起 Feng Sheng Shui Qi meaning “Progress at a fast pace” 步步高升 Bu Bu Gao Sheng meaning “Reaching a higher level with each step”

The condiments are finally added.

First, peanut crumbs are dusted on the dish, symbolizing a household filled with gold and silver. 金银满屋 Jin Yin Man Wu meaning “Household filled with gold and silver”

Sesame seeds quickly follow symbolising a flourishing business. 生意兴隆 Sheng Yi Xing Long means “Prosperity in the business”

Yu Sheng sauce, usually plum sauce, is generously drizzled over everything. 甜甜蜜蜜 Tian Tian Mi Mi Meaning “May life always be sweet”[18]

Deep-fried flour crisps in the shape of golden pillows are then added with wishes that literally the whole floor would be filled with gold. 满地黄金 Man Di Huang Jin, meaning “Floor full of gold”

Pineapple Tarts

Will be sold at Resorts World Genting from 16th January to 22nd February 2016.
We sampled them, and they were big and delicious, not too sweet, just nice, I love it.


They are available at the various kiosks stationed:
  1. Genting Palace (Level 2, Genting Grand)
  2. Good Friends Restaurant (Level 2, Maxims)
  3. Hainan Kitchen (Level 2, First World Plaza)


Two sizes are available:
  1. 20 pieces in an airtight container priced at RM35 nett
  2. 12 pieces in a red lid container priced at RM25 nett.


Genting Palace opens:
12pm to 2.30pm (lunch)
6pm to 9.30pm (dinner)

  7. Interesting, didn't know Genting have decent looking food. Always felt that they are mostly cooking for tourist so everything operates like a factory churning out food by the thousands for higher price than what we pay in KL.

    The roads though is still fun to drive on. Except now there's more speed bumps on the downhill which is a drag. :(
